About the work
The most dangerous augmentation is the one you cannot see.
In Signal, Di Nicolantonio strips the drama from the human-machine equation and arrives at something far more unsettling a face that is almost entirely, recognisably human. The hair moves. The skin breathes. The eyes hold depth and intention. And yet, embedded at the outer orbit of the right eye, almost imperceptible, a small arc of engineered precision marks the threshold: a retinal interface, a neural receiver, a direct line between this consciousness and the networks that surround it.
She is not half-machine. She is nearly entirely herself with one quiet addition that changes everything.
This is where the Futuropia research points most urgently. Not toward the dramatic cyborg of science fiction, but toward this: a generation that will carry its augmentations invisibly, integrated so seamlessly into biological form that the boundary between organic perception and artificial intelligence processing will no longer be visible to the naked eye. The body will look the same. The mind will not be.
Signal asks the question that Vessel could not: not what does augmentation look like but what does it feel like, from the inside, when the upgrade is already running?
