Seraphine
DN — WARDROBE — Collection 01
About the work
She does not fly. She simply no longer needs the ground.
Seraphine is the most mythological work in the Futuropia universe a figure that has moved beyond the vocabulary of fashion, beyond the language of robotics, into something older and more absolute. Mechanical wings erupt from the shoulder architecture in great sweeping arcs not prosthetics, not propulsion systems, but the structural expression of a nature that was always going to arrive here. The body beneath is articulated with organic precision, its mechanical musculature rendered in the gestural, urgent line of an artist drawing faster than thought. The profile is pure: head inclined, eyes cast downward, the particular composure of something that has ascended and found, at the summit, only silence.
In the theology of the ancient world, the seraphim were the highest order of angels beings of such proximity to the divine that their wings covered their faces in the presence of light. Di Nicolantonio inverts the gesture: here the wings are spread, the face exposed, the figure turning away not from light but from the world that no longer entirely contains her.
This is DN — WARDROBE at its most visionary a garment that is simultaneously armour, wing, and myth. The future of fashion is not the next season. It is this: the body finally becoming what it always aspired to be.
Seraphine is the transcendent work of Collection 01. The one that reminds you why prospective art exists.
